Bees
We discussed at the last committee meeting allowing a beekeeper to place a hive or hives on site. It was agreed that this would be a good idea as bees are essential to pollination of our crops. Arrangements to contact a beekeeper are ongoing. If anyone can help then please contact the shed.
In the meantime to encourage bees it may be worthwhile growing some bee friendly plants. Also you can help by putting up a bumble bee or insect house to encourage creatures to overwinter.
Vegetable Plants
The car boor sale at Measham has had an excellent stall selling vegetable plants for the last couple of weeks. Cheap enough and of good enough quality to make me question whether I should grow so much from seed next year. The car boot at Fradley has had a few stalls selling veg plants, though not as much choice, just the usual runner beans, sweetcorn, lettuce, cucumbers and pumpkins. Other local stockists I would recommend include the small nursery down the lane opposite the Foresters pub in Yoxall, the regular plant fairs at the cemetery in Stapenhill where they sell trays of veg plants for £1.50 and even B&Q who have a much increased range of vegetable plants, where I’ve picked up a couple of bargains.
At the other end of the scale is Byrkley Garden centre where you can pick up a tomato plant for £3.95!

We don't have mains water on site, so have to rely on rain water and water pumped from underground.
If anyone has any expertise on installing underground pumps then please contact us.
